Women entrepreneurs in India have come a long way. India have been witnessing gain in women entrepreneurship post economic liberalization and globalization. Women entrepreneurship in India is increasing at a considerable rate. Acoording to Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation’s sixth economic census it was highlighted that women constitute around 14% of the total entrepreneurship in India. Today’s women entrepreneurs do not come only from the established business families or from the higher-income sections of the population, they come from all income groups and from all parts of the country. From managing media outlets  to sport firms to real estate companies and security and detective agencies, Indian women are making a mark into fields that have traditionally been considerd as male domination. In this article we will go through the life journey of some of famous entrepreneurs.

Arpita Ganesh

Arpita Ganesh also known as the ‘Indian Bra Lady’,  found her passion in a unique vocation which is creating a lingerie brand that will help women find their right fits, size and styles, all at affordable prices. After gaining a bra-fitting session in New York, Arpita was ready to leave her 10 years career in advertising to make her mark in the Indian lingerie market. She estabilishe India’s first exclusive lingerie brand which is “ Buttercups” that retailed international labels and provided personalised sizing, to fitting, to consultations based on one’s requirements and size.

Vandana Luthra – The founder of VLCC

Vandana Luthra is an Indian businesswoman, philanthropy and chairperson of the beauty & Wellness sector skill council. In 1989, she stared the company called VLCC as a beauty and slimming service centre. Later, she added more services such as hair build, full-body laser, grooming and Dermat services. In April 2013, she awarded with Padma Shree award by Indian President Pranab Mukherjee. Vandana Luthra has been running NGO called Khushii, which offers a scholarship for free education to those who are underprivileged and physically challenged.
